Who started BeerOps?

BeerOps was started by Stephen J Wallace and Gerhard Schweinitz

Founded in 2014 by Stephen J Wallace and Gerhard Schweinitz, BeerOps began in Sydney as a networking event for DevOps professionals, blending practical tech discussions with relaxed social connection over sponsor-funded bite ’n beverage.

Its distinctive format quickly gained momentum, expanding to Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and now Canberra as its fifth city. BeerOps is now held annually in each city and has become a recognised fixture in the Australian IT community.

Today, attendees are typically professionals working across AI, data, cyber, DevOps, and systems automation. BeerOps is valued for bringing together technical insight, commercial opportunity, and genuine community connection in a format that feels more like a conversation than a conference.

ExecOps is BeerOps’ senior executive networking format, designed for technology leaders, CxOs, senior decision-makers, and strategic partners.

Where BeerOps brings together the broader tech community, ExecOps focuses on executive-level conversations around technology strategy, leadership, innovation, AI, data, cyber, digital transformation, and business growth. It gives senior leaders a more curated environment to connect, share insights, explore partnerships, and discuss the priorities shaping Australia’s technology sector.
