Code of Conduct

  • Need help?

Please contact the organisers in person or by email at stephen@execsandtechs.com.

All attendees, speakers, sponsors, and volunteers at our meetups are required to follow this Code of Conduct. Organisers will enforce it throughout the event, and we expect everyone to cooperate in helping us maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all.

Execs & Techs is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, colour, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, parental status, marital status, political affiliation, mental health, socioeconomic background, neurodiversity, or physical appearance.

We are united by our love of technology, and we celebrate the unique differences that make our community stronger.

    Unacceptable behaviour

The Execs & Techs team is committed to providing a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. Discrimination and harassment are expressly prohibited.

Any behaviour or language that is unwelcoming, exclusionary, intimidating, or disruptive is strongly discouraged, whether or not it meets the formal definition of harassment.

We do not tolerate harassment of meetup participants in any form. Sexually explicit language or imagery is not appropriate at any Execs & Techs venue or activity, including talks, workshops, social events, sponsor booths, online forums, social media, or event-related communications.

Participants who violate this Code of Conduct may be warned, removed from the event without refund, or subject to further action at the discretion of the organisers.

    Reporting a problem

If you experience or witness behaviour that you believe breaches this Code of Conduct, please let us know as soon as possible.

    You can:

Execs & Techs team members take these concerns seriously.

Organisers can help participants contact venue security, local law enforcement, arrange escorts, or otherwise assist anyone experiencing harassment or unsafe behaviour. Your safety is important to us.

We welcome concerns of any size or seriousness. In all cases, we will make every effort to communicate clearly with anyone who reports a concern and to maintain confidentiality wherever possible.

    Taking care of each other

Sometimes you may witness behaviour that does not align with our values. In these situations, please err on the side of care.

Even if an incident seems minor, consider checking in with the person affected. We also encourage you to speak directly with a member of the Execs & Techs team so we are aware of the concern and can respond appropriately.

Depending on the situation, you may also choose to speak directly with the person whose behaviour breached the Code of Conduct. However, these conversations can be difficult. If you are unsure how to approach the situation, please contact stephen@execsandtechs.com and we will help you think through the best next step.

    Committing to self-improvement

None of us is perfect. From time to time, we may fall short of the standards we expect from ourselves and each other. What matters is taking responsibility, listening with an open mind, and making a clear and genuine effort to improve.

If someone tells you that your behaviour made them feel unwelcome or unsafe, whether intentionally or not, please listen carefully and avoid becoming defensive. Offering feedback often takes courage. The best way to respect that courage is to acknowledge the concern, apologise where appropriate, and commit to doing better.

Participants asked to stop harassing, disruptive, or unwelcome behaviour are expected to comply immediately.

    Examples of harassment

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

    • Offensive comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, or other personal attributes.
    • Sexual images or sexually explicit content in public spaces.
    • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following.
    • Harassing photography or recording.
    • Sustained disruption of talks, workshops, or other event activities.
    • Inappropriate physical contact.
    • Unwelcome sexual attention.

    Sponsor conduct

Sponsors are also subject to this Code of Conduct.

Sponsors must not use sexualised images, activities, clothing, uniforms, costumes, or other material. Sponsor booth staff, including volunteers, must not create a sexualised or otherwise unwelcoming environment.

    Enforcement

If a participant engages in harassing, unsafe, or unacceptable behaviour, the organisers may take any action they consider appropriate. This may include warning the participant, removing them from the event without refund, banning them from future events, or reporting the behaviour to the relevant authorities.

We expect all participants to follow this Code of Conduct at meetup venues, workshop venues, social events, sponsor activities, and all event-related online spaces.
